Jeff Senkeleski runs the New Jersey marathon to support myotonic dystrophy research, in honor of his niece, Brittany

On May 4, 2008, Jeff Senkeleski crossed the finish line of the New Jersey marathon! His beautiful daughters, Sara and Loretto ran the last 100 feet while his wife, who is carrying their unborn child, cheered from the sidelines. This was Jeff’s second marathon and an opportunity for him to raise awareness and research funding for myotonic dystrophy in honor of his niece and godchild, Brittany Marie Shea, who was diagnosed in 2004. Brittany is an extremely warm and loving child who is quick to make friends and always there for a hug and a kiss. As Jeff describes, “Brittany is a ray of light in our family. We are a large family with all sorts of personalities, but Brittany is the one true constant of the ever-tender and always-giving soul.” Admittedly not the prototypical long distance runner, Jeff faced some difficult days throughout his many weeks of training and, in fact, on the day of the race as well when he hit the proverbial “wall” at mile 20. But throughout, Jeff had Brittany to inspire him to push through and was successful in finishing the 26.2 mile test.  So far they have raised $2800 for research.
