Management of Myotonic Dystrophy
Myotonic dystrophy (DM) is an inherited, mulitsystemic disorder with symptoms that worsen over time. There is currently no cure for myotonic dystrophy, nor any treatments that can delay its progression.
However, managing the clinical manifestations of the disease can reduce symptoms and improve the quality of life of affected individuals. In addition, ongoing monitoring of systems where problems can arise (e.g., heart, lung, muscle, digestive systems) can avoid or reduce the complications that may develop in later stages of the disease.
