Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are excited to share that on May 23, 2020 the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation will be moving to a new location just across the San Francisco Bay into downtown Oakland.

Now, more than ever, we remain dedicated to our mission to enhance the quality of life of people living with myotonic dystrophy and accelerate research focused on finding treatments and a cure. This move will allow us to continue working towards our mission and serve the community with the same capacity – it will not affect our operations.

We decided to make this move for several important reasons:

  1. We’ll be able to invest more into Care and a Cure! Our new location means lower overhead costs. With this move we’ll save over $25,000 a year on rent.  This means that we can allocate more funds to our programs and services for the community.

  2. We’ll be in a more accessible location! Our new office is located in a historic district in downtown Oakland designated specifically for nonprofits. This space is much easier to access via public transportation and is located on the ground level for easier accessibility for all. The space is wheelchair, walker, and braces-friendly and ready for visitors!

  3. We’ll be reducing our carbon footprint!  By moving to an easier to access location, our staff all have a shorter commute – we’ll be keeping cars off the road by over 200 hours a month!

Please update your records with our new address:
Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, 663 Thirteenth Street, Suite 100, Oakland, CA 94612

Our team members are all still currently working from home to help flatten the curve but when our Shelter-in-Place orders lift, we will slowly begin to return to work in our new Oakland office.  We will continue to move our mission forward in our new Oakland office and invite you to stop by to visit us in the future if you are in the area!

Sincerely,
