This event will include a presenter, Jordan Bontrager, MS, CGC, Genetic Counselor, Neuromuscular Disease Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He will provide a brief overview of the genetics and inheritance of myotonic dystrophy types 1 and 2 (DM1 and DM2). This presentation will also provide information regarding the benefits and risks of genetic testing for DM1 and DM2 and will help participants identify family members at risk for disease. The group will discuss considerations regarding when to consider genetic testing, as well as logistics surrounding testing such as finding an appropriate specialist, navigating insurance, and interpreting results.
