IDMC-14: International Myotonic Dystrophy Consortium

The local organizing committee are pleased to announce that the 14th meeting of the International Myotonic Dystrophy Consortium will take place from April 9 to April 13, 2024 in the city of Nijmegen in The Netherlands.

Attendees can expect an exciting program with ample opportunities to interact with myotonic dystrophy scientists from around the world. The Committee is working on an inspiring mix of scientific, educational and social events from Tuesday until Friday, and the traditional patient day on Saturday, where scientists meet patients. The Committee welcomes you all in 2024 and hopes that together we can make it an unforgettable IDMC meeting.

Meet the Early Career Grant Recipient: Dr. Johanna Hamel

Dr. Johanna Hamel, an Assistant Professor in Neurology, Pathology, and Laboratory Medicine, developed her interest in DM1 and DM2 during medical school in Germany. Her residency at the University of Rochester, chosen for its focus on neuromuscular medicine and DM, led to a fellowship under Dr. Charles Thornton, funded by the Clinical Research Training Fellowship Award in Muscular Dystrophy.

Research Fellow Feature: Cameron Niazi

After spending two years at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Cameron Niazi pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Florida in Dr. Eric Wang's lab. Attracted by the lab's integration of basic science and translational research, joining the Wang Lab also provided a personal connection to DM1.
